Whenever possible I love to meet a couple and have an "engagement shoot" - such an awful name as it's never at their engagement of course so I prefer the term "Couples Shoot" although it sometimes has other family members or dogs involved so perhaps I need a re-think on that too!

The shoot is most importantly an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to get familiar with a camera - I know we all have cameras on our smartphones but professional cameras are a little more obvious I suppose. I always suggest that this shoot is far harder than your wedding day as then you'll be expecting to be photographed and there will be a natural ramp into it, but I think there's something else... On your wedding day you'll be wearing a beautiful dress or suit and it's as if it's that that I'm photographing. Of course I'm looking for the little stories, where the light is best, the human interactions that make you... you but there's something about putting on specific clothing that let's us almost play a role. I don't want to suggest you won't be relaxed on your day, perhaps it's how we feel if we wear a uniform for work; it makes us the best version of ourselves.
Not only is it an opportunity for us to get to know each other it's a chance for me to explore if you prefer natural images or might like a few high contrast/creative shots in your collection. Here's a few...

NOTES AND ADVICE FOR THE SHOOT
If you've booked a higher tier package with me then it's included (within a 30 minute drive) but if we are outside my busy period I can be flexible and even offer them for free so look out for offers.
Location. Choose something that reflects your style: countryside, town, beach, cliff walking etc. Perhaps a location that has a special meaning for you or one that gives us lots of options. Ideally we'll have a coffee and chat first and then head off for the shoot.
Clothing. Wear complimentary colours, avoid stripes/busy patterns or logos (and even bright colours unless you're both going to wear them) as these are distractions or can pull our attention.
Time. Late afternoon/early evening is often the best for light but depending upon where we choose we should be able to find some flattering soft light or embrace the shadows.
Fun. Creative. Memorable. - that's my part of the shoot.
