Getting married under an old oak tree (I think it’s an oak tree, anyway it’s a beautiful canopy over the guests who enjoy an uninterrupted view of Exmoor.

The confetti walk. One of the challenges I set guests “don’t throw confetti in their faces” and the couple “try to look at me occasionally” is often completely disregarded or near impossible but in such the photographs tell the story of the moment.

Q. What are the 3 mistakes I didn’t spot when making this photograph? Do the guests notice? I don’t know but criticising oneself is what makes us great at our job and better next time regardless of how many years we have done it. A. Her L hand, the jacket pocket and something in his trouser pocket. Silly me.

I love this little barn area at Little Quarme, it’s not your classic wedding photo location, but I’m really attracted to the contrasting materials and textures.

A skipping rope is my favourite garden toy/activity at a wedding.

If you invite a dog to a wedding.

Kayleigh and Russell were adamant that they didn’t want to have a first dance but after a little bit of pursuasion from the DJ and their guests they did; so a natural photograph in colour

and black and white were all that were needed; no clever light setup just a simple retelling of this part of their story.

Kayleigh returned to the party after a brief dress swap, after all who doesn’t;t have two wedding dresses!

Now that’s what I call a cheesecake.

Although I provide an identical colour version of the images, the evening photos often look better in black and white as we get to concentrate on the subjects and not be distracted by often clashing colours.

This is Kayleigh and Russell, they were married at one of my favourite venues: Little Quarme. I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph a number of weddings up here on Exmoor and love the area so much that we’ve booked a few of Katherine and Nick’s cottages for a short break. One of the many benefits of choosing a space like Little Quarme is that as the couple you have the flexibility to have a wedding your way; whilst Katherine can recommend suppliers and help with planning, you are of course free to do it your way.

My little blog only lets me share 20 photos but trust me I do send quite a few more than that, in fact my Lightroom catalogue tells me this couple received 910 black and white and 910 colour so selecting 20 was quite tricky; I’ve chosen to share mostly natural stories from the day and illustrate some of the spaces the venue offers as I suspect these are the most interesting if you don’t know the individuals in photos.
